Today in science we've been thinking about what animals eat and how food chains work. 

Do you know what omnivores, herbivores and carnivores eat?

We listened to and started to learn this song to help us remember;

Then we sorted different herbivores, omnivores and carnivores into our venn diagrams. 

Can you create your own venn diagram at home? 

Maybe you could draw around two plates so that you make perfect circles.

Science - Life Cycle of a Runner Bean

What do you know about the lifecycle of a plant?

Today at achool we're planting runner beans so that we can watch how they germinate and grow. 

Here's an information sheet that explains more about the different stages in the life cycle of a runner bean.

Once our beans have germinated and grown into seedlings we're going to plant them in our edible playground where they can grow until the beans are ready to harvest.

Science - similarities and differences of flowering plants

For Science today, we are continuing looking at plants.

How many parts of a plant can you remember? Have a go below.

This tulip is different to the sunflower we looked at last week. Instead of a seed, it has a bulb. The orange arrow is pointing to the bulb that the tulip grows from.

Today we are learning to look at similarities and differences between different flowering plants.
Let's find out what a flowering plant is first by watching the video:

Now have a go at sorting these plants into the right categories:

For the next activity, you will need to find yourself two-three different flowers. These could be from your garden, the park or a shop. Look closely at them and try to answer the questions:

Now that you have had a closer look, can you take the flowers apart gently with your fingers and group together the parts of the plant that are the same. Try using the key words on the side to label your plant parts!

Have a look at this picture. Use what you remember about keeping plants alive to think how you could help save the sad plant on the left.

Science - Sunflowers

What do you know about the different parts of plants?
Today we are learning to name and describe different parts of a flowering plant.

The plant we are looking at today is a sunflower. At school we have been planting our own sunflowers. You might want to have a go at planting your own sunflower at home. Don't worry if it's too tricky to do at home as we'll plant lots of sunflowers in our school playground for you to look at when we all come back to school. 

You will need:

• plastic cup
• compost
• garden sunflower seeds
• large flowerpot (for later)

Mr Bignall's been so busy watering our edible playground whilst we've all been at home. With the hot weather we've been having the plants have grown and grown, abit like the giagantic turnip did!

Bird Song

My next door neighbor LOVES garden birds! 

Yesterday he told me that since we all started staying at home the birds have been having a fantastic time enjoying all the empty streets and play parks.

So open up your window or go outside and have a listen to the beautiful bird song!
