Scotland - the bagpipes

Today we're going to be learning about the country I was born and grew up in -  Scotland!
I was born in Edinburgh which is Scotland's capital city. It is famous for it's brilliant castle, it's even bigger than the Tower of London!
Scotland, like Ireland is famous for it's music. My favourite Scottish musical instrument are the bagpipes which look like this;
They're so loud you can hear them from miles away! When I got married in October they played this tune - Highland Cathedral;

Your challenge today is to write a description of what Bagpipes sound and look like and how you play them. If you'd like to do some more research;
Post your answers in the comments box below.

  1. Dear mrs Binnie,
    This is my discripsion about bagpipes ,

    A bagpipe is a instrument. You blow into a tube that leads to a bag.

    Sticking out of the bag are some flute-likepoles you use to play the cords.
    (The bag leaves air so when you go to breathe in, it carries on playing

    If you play well, it will sound brilliant

    1. Hi Buddy,

      Good to hear from you! Thanks for the description of bagpipes. I agree when they're played well they sound brilliant. (But they can sound really terrible if they're played badly!)

      Hope you had a good weekend.

  2. Bagpipes sound like trombones because they make big noises. The bagpipes look like a bag with flutes and recorders. You blow into the first pipe and then you cover the holies too make different sounds.

  4. What great descriptions Zayd! They do sound like someone calling. Did you know that they were used during battles in Scotland?

    Hope you had a good weekend!
